Recycling Collection Information
All recycling for the Boro of Ben Avon Heights will be collected on every other WEDNESDAY. Please make sure it is at the curb by 6:00 a.m. for collection. The schedule for pickup is also available.The following recyclables should be placed inside the container provided by the Township. No plastic bags can be used.
Designated Recyclables
- Newsprint
- Newspapers - Newspaper should be bundled and either tied with string or placed in a paper bag. The paper bag or bundled newspapers should be placed next to the recycling bin on recycling days.
- Glass
- Brown, green and clear glass - Food and beverage bottles and jars. Rinse out glass and remove lids and metal or plastic rings. Must be unbroken, remove as much label as possible.
- No window glass, dishes, light bulbs
- Plastic
- PETE containers - indicated by a recycling symbol with an enclosed number one 1. Includes soda bottles, salad dressing bottles, etc.
- HDPE containers - indicated by recycling symbol with an enclosed number two 2. Includes one gallon plastic milk and detergent bottles. Rinse out containers and remove lids and metal or plastic rings. May be crushed to save space.
- Metals
- Bi-Metal and Steel Cans - Food and juice cans. Rinse cans. Ends may be removed and placed in cans, cans should be flattened to save pace. Remove as much of label as possible
- Aluminum Can - Beverage Cans/Beer and Soda. Rinse cans and crush to save space. Aerosol and paint cans are not recyclable.
Recycling Holiday Service
If your scheduled recycling pick-up is on or after a holiday, pick-up will be one day later for the remainder of the week.Recycling Drop-off Information
Other materials can be recycled as well although they are not collected. These items must be dropped off at the local recycling centers.- Newspapers - newspapers and other new-type printings
- Magazines - magazines and glossy pamphlets
- White Office paper - white paper from office or school, etc.
- Mixed Paper - junk mail, non-white office paper, cash register receipts, etc.
- Phone Books - white pages and yellow pages. This also includes paperback books
- Cardboard - paper with corrugated layer.
- Paperboard - cereal boxes, etc. that are not cardboard
- Hardback Books - all hardback books
- Plastics - all plastics 1-5
Drop-off Locations
- Construction Junction will take all of the above items. Each classification should be separated and when taken for drop-off placed in the correct bin. All Cardboard and Paperboard boxes must be flattened.
- Alibibi will take Newspaper, Magazines, White Office Paper, and Mixed Paper. There are many drop-off bins throughout the community including all Avonworth Schools and the libraries.
Household Hazardous Waste
The Southwest Pennsylvania Household Hazardous Waste Task Force works with local municipalities and businesses to promote 2010 household hazardous waste (HHW) collection events. Collection events provide residents with opportunities to protect the environment and community health by safely and economically disposing of common household chemicals.
